No matter what your struggles are, you are not alone. Whatever issues you are dealing with, including: relationship problems, grief, depression, anxiety, blocked creativity, or a longing to feel more at peace with yourself, it can get better. I am committed to building a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship with you that will enable you to feel seen, nurtured, and empowered.
I know that looking for the right therapist can be a challenging process and usually comes after exhausting all of your current coping strategies and resources. It takes courage to reach out for support from a professional and to share your struggles with someone you don’t know. I’m glad you’re here.
I will support you on your path to heal past wounds and change present self-defeating patterns so you may live a more peaceful, joyful, creative and connected life.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with expertise in Drama Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy. I provide individual, couple and group therapy to adults and adolescents at offices in Emeryville and Oakland. I utilize verbal psychotherapy, mindfulness techniques, and expressive arts therapies including: drama therapy, drawing, painting, journaling, poetry, sand-tray, guided imagery, ritual, and movement.
I have found that using expressive arts as a method of exploration often allows clients access to unconscious processes in ways that verbal therapy alone does not. If you are intimidated by the idea of using arts in therapy, I can assure you that you need absolutely no experience or “talent.” The focus is not on the product but rather the process of engaging in creativity itself, and exploring and expressing what you encounter in your inner world.
My clients usually find expressive arts helpful in untangling complex and confusing internal experiences, and often have an “aha” moment when engaged in these methods. My clients come to appreciate how revealing, life-affirming and healing the expressive arts in therapy are; helping them to access their inherent creativity and bringing energy and vitality to their life and continuing growth.
I work with each of my clients to choose the methods most comfortable and effective for their issues and individual style. I will respect your inner wisdom and collaborate with you to identify the changes you want to make and begin to move you in the direction of living the life you want to live.
