You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck or not quite like yourself. While you know change is a natural part of life, you are grappling with a transition point that you chose or that came about by life circumstances. Either way, you are going through a tough time, and reaching out for help takes courage. So you have already taken a huge positive step.
You are ready for the next step. Let’s begin…
Tell me what “healing” means to you. Is it overcoming depression, anxiety or trauma? Having healthier relationships? Or is it finding a way to feel better about you? Let’s work together to have you feeling like you again, with a wider range of choices and greater capacity to meet life’s challenges. Life can be more than struggle. I can help you cultivate the ability to walk in this world with power and ease.
I have a warm and active style, and my approach is based on the latest research in the fields of interpersonal neurobiology and affective neuroscience. As an Expressive Arts Therapist, I also incorporate the arts and action methods in addition to talk therapy in order to access and mobilize the resources you already have within you. Change does not come through cognitive insight alone, and the arts help us create experiences in the safety of the therapeutic relationship that can extend to the rest of your life. This does not require a high level of artistic skill.
I also have specialized training in working with couples…
We are wired for bonding and connection, and yet it is our closest relationships that are often the most challenging. There is perhaps nothing more painful than being in conflict with our partner.
Couples often fall into predictable patterns of conflict that leave them disconnected and unable to communicate effectively. One partner may tend to pull away as a form of self-protection and “turning down the volume,” while the other will chase or attack out of frustration or distress. Over time, these patterns lead to despair and hopelessness.
As a couples therapist with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, I will help you identify and shift your negative cycle into a more positive one. I create a safe space that respects each person’s position and allows each person to feel heard and understood. My clients often report feeling relief in the presence of a neutral yet emotionally present third party. We will work together to interrupt your negative dynamic and create new experiences in your relationship, leading to better communication and a greater sense of connection to both self and other.
My professional background:
I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Human Development and minor in Art History from UC San Diego. I have worked in the fields of health and the arts for over 10 years. As a therapist I have worked with trauma/domestic violence, chronic/terminal illness, depression, anxiety, immigration, relationship difficulties and life transitions. I am fluent in English, Spanish and Farsi, and work with adults, children, families and couples.
You have the wisdom you need within you. Let’s tap into it!
